Once upon a time exploring the world means physically getting to that place and in order to do that, we have to purchase flight tickets, hotels and so forth as a traveller or tourist. Then we will explore places of interest and experience the ‘real time’ moments.
With the advancement of technology, we can now explore the world at the click of our finger. Of course, you will have a virtual tour of places you wish to go but it is so real, you could explore from street to street. You could even search for hotels at the location you are ‘visiting’ and these hotel sometimes do not appear in your search in Agoda, TripAdvisor or Airbnb.
This kind of information is very useful for you to do planning if you intend to visit the place in future. You can plan for your budget, number of days to stay based on places of interest you wish to visit because you would be able to calculate the fee/fare in advance. This information could be obtained from Google Maps!
What is google map? Google Maps is a Web-based service that provides detailed information about geographical regions and sites around the world. In addition to conventional road maps, Google Maps offers aerial and satellite views of many places.
Once, maps were available only to royalty but now, you can explore Earth, Moon, Mars, and even dive into the depths of the oceans. The possibilities of using Google Maps, Earth and Street View are as endless as your imagination.
By using Google Maps Street View, we can explore world landmarks, discover natural wonders and step inside locations such as museums, arenas, restaurants and small businesses with 360-degree images.
Hey look! This is my current location from Google Maps;
Tadaaaaa…….the view of our house…..amazing!!!
How to use Google Maps?
Step 1 : Go to http://www.google.maps.my for Malaysia. In this case you are looking for places in Malaysia.
Step 2 : Type in the search box the name, address or postcode of the place you’re looking for – in this case, ‘Sarawak Culture Village’. Click on the icon of the magnifying glass to search or choose from the autocomplete suggestions if the place is listed.
You can get a similar result by typing in the postcode of a place, but it will be more precise because a postcode denotes a specific place.
Fun right? It is so FUN you could spend hours exploring the streets of cities that you wish to visit. It is something like ‘feasibility study’ before you make any decision to go to that place or to other places for your next vacation.
With Google Maps, you can become arm-chair explorers and cartographers with ease. Google Maps are a fun and visual way to help you and particularly your kids understand geography concepts, map reading, location, and distance measurement.
Let’s explore the world!!
