Langkawi, also known as the Jewel of Kedah, has a stunning beauty which made it one of the most popular tourist destinations.
There are amazing spots in Langkawi: beautiful beaches, cheap duty free shopping and fascinating legends. The famous legend of Mahsuri is very well-known among kids in Malaysia and while in Langkawi, visiting her graveyard and house is something the kids would remember and refreshed their history lesson.
Mahsuri was a beautiful lady who was accused adulteress, and was sentenced to death by Dato Karma Jaya, her own father-in-law. Mahsuri is probably best remembered for her curse. With her dying breath Mahsuri placed a curse on the island of Langkawi by uttering, “For this act of injustice Langkawi shall not prosper for seven generations to come.”
Decades after Mahsuri’s death, Langkawi experienced a period of tribulation with her population dwindling in size. The island became a desolate place, beset by series of misfortunes.
During our visit at Langkawi, we visited Mahsuri’s house which is now preserved as public museum and there is also video on Mahsuri’s history played in the museum. Kids just love watching the video because the drama is like doing revision for their history lesson.
Langkawi island has beautiful beaches and it is a great place to relax and have fun.
Langkawi has many small islands and there are a lot of operators offering different packages. The island hopping was such a great experience and the beauty of Langkawi is undeniable!

We also took a ride in the cable car to and that was my scariest experience because Langkawi’s cable ride is the steepest and the SkyCab is located at the oldest part of South East Asia and the first to emerge from the ancient sea and estuary! Scary!
The view from the sea
We had a tour using the “Duck Tour” that can moves on land and as well go to the sea and the kids just love it!
Gamat is a Malay word which means sea cucumber and in Langkawi, it if famous for its gamat product and these product served as medicinal remedies and believed to be good to cure wounds.
Langkawi has many duty free shops and we can buy chocolates and other items at a very cheap price! Shopping concluded our trip and everyone was happy!
